Punjab is a state in the northwest of the Republic of India. The state is bordered by the Indian states of Himachal Pradesh to the east, Haryana to the south and southeast and Rajasthan to the southwest as well as the Pakistani province of Punjab to the west. It is also bounded to the north by Jammu and Kashmir. The state capital is located in Chandigarh. The word Punjab is from Sanskrit and Persian words panj and ap that means “five” and “water”, respectively, thus Panjab means “Five Rivers”, which roughly means “Land of Five Rivers”.
Punjab is a state popular for its culture, cuisine and history. Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Patiala are the prime cities in the state. Located in the north west of India, Punjab is the second largest producer of major agricultural products in the country. Punjab is also one of the most prosperous states of India. The state has many attractions like Gurudwaras, shrines, wildlife, lakes, and so on. Moreover, the handicraft industry of India is also very popular.
